Swimming Routine

Posted by Pete on January 13th, 2005

I picked up a magazine during my holiday travel and in it was a 10-week swimming routine. I had been going to the gym and occasionally swimming but really haven’t done much since I was on the high school swim team. I decided to give it a shot. So far I’m on week three and I’ve already noticed an improvement. Swimming is a great sport for cardio. It’s low impact, it works the entire body and unlike the treadmills at 6:00, there’s little wait time to get in a lane. Plus some research has shown that routine swimming can help reduce the effects of aging.

I guess that’s why I’m still so imature. :)

Spidering the Web

Posted by Pete on January 12th, 2005

So in addition to exploring scripts for my website, I’ve also been curious as to how I can start creating spiders or agents to crawl the web and bring back information to me. One immediate use is regarding my passport. I recently had one completed and sent away to be processed. Now I’m waiting for it to be mailed back to me. I have the return tracking number but it doesn’t do me any good until its in the mail so I’d like a script to check for that tracking number everyday and notify me when my passport is on its way. I have a feeling this is a long-term project and considering the amount of free time I have right now, I think I’ll save time just checking it myself but once I can get the basics down, I could come up with a lot more uses.

Volunteer Update

Posted by Pete on January 5th, 2005

Got an email the other day from the volunteer center asking if I was interested in tutoring someone on computers. We set up a time next week to meet so I’m interested and excited to see how it goes.
